Grading the Georgia Bulldogs’ 2008 Football Season
Content provided by Dawg Sports. Matt. Does a Big Ten also-ran in the Ex-Citrus Bowl even qualify as a consolation prize for Georgia? Or is UGA’s season just a crater after getting pantsed by Georgia Tech, no matter what? Ten wins (assuming a win over MSU, whose defense has been ripped on numerous occasions) with a slew of injuries sounds like a fine year to me. Georgia fans … they do not readily agree. Holly. Georgia Tech on its possess, maybe not a crater. Georgia Tech and an impending Kno

Polo The New Frontier?
Polo The New Frontier? January 6th, 2009 As we lose sports teams and big brands worry about the best way to receive ROI, some potential opportunities always arise. One of the more unique ones was pointed out in a detailed Reuters piece, which showed the value brands are getting and continue to receive in Argentina…with the sport of polo. Now it is obviously not a traditional play, especially in most areas of North America, but one would wonder if perhaps the economy downturn for the right brands

Why So Serious About Brian Billick?
Brian Billick appears to be a front runner for the head coaching gigs of the New York Jets and Detroit Lions. Would either team be a good fit? Absolutely. The Lions truly can’t go anywhere but up, so they might as well start with a coach that is known for scheming the two most important phases of a pro football team; its offense and the media that covers it. Matt Millen left the team in a shambles, and mortgaged off any fan faith in the squad with the Roy Williams trade. Billick, at the very

Rugby Romance, Anyone?
According to The Guardian’s Book Blog, the RFU and Mills & Boon are to team up to lift the profile of rugby by producing rugby-themed romance novels. It didn’t take Alison Flood long to work out that this was a pretty dumb idea for a sport where one of the players is known as the “hooker”. But really, why cease at romance? Who knows what goes on in the England scrum? And as for Stade Francais… Rugby slash, anyone? Butler/Moore? (Actually, arrive to think about it, the slash thing might work bett

If I were a Jedi, part 2
If I were a Jedi, I wouldn’t bother waiting in line at the convenience store for those guys in front of me that play a bunch of lottery tickets and monopolize the cashier. I’d send lightning sparking out of my fingertips and into his shoulder, either to hasten his circle-penciling NFL quick picks, or else to [...]

Ten Reasons Why the Giants Will Beat the Eagles In the Playoffs 1. Home field advantage. A huge reason why the Giants will beat the Eagles is because the Giants fans will be noisy and the energy will be incredible because it’s the playoffs. Having the home crowd behind you can really help, especially in a playoff game. 2. Brandon Jacobs. Jacobs is 264 pounds of pure muscle running at you like a train that just can’t be stopped. He has the great ability to push players down while staying on h

Matchups, What to Watch For
When the Carolina Panthers met the Arizona Cardinals in week 8 this year, both teams were feeling good about what they had accomplished. The Cardinals were 4-2 when they came into Bank of America Stadium to play the 5-2 Panthers, but left with a tough defeat. Since then Carolina has been the more consistent team, however, Arizona showed something last week against Atlanta. Here are some matchups to watch this Saturday when the teams take the field for the second time this season. Ken Luc

Mike Francesa Explores Zoology
Mike Francesa Explores Zoology Posted by Losloseeboy January 5th, 2009 I’ve heard Mikey call Plaxico a giraffe before. But I was in my car on the Taconic and could only pound away on the steering wheel. This time around I was laying in the groove of my sofa after pulling a 12-hour workday. With a nasty case of Francesafreude bubbling inside, I went to work. JUSTICE!

Bengals on the Bubble
Aside from the usual crop of free agents, there are a number of current Bengals who may not be wearing orange-and-black arrive next fall. Here’s a rundown of players on the bubble. Chris Perry. A first-round pick in 2004, Perry has appeared in just 35 games in five seasons. At the beginning of the 2008 season, the Bengals clip Rudi Johnson and handed Perry the starting job. He responded by gaining just 253 rushing yards in six starts, and was benched for Bears castoff Cedric Benson. By season’s e

Dolphins gain on the business side, too
A record-breaking and energized crowd of 74,240 attended Sunday’s Dolphins-Baltimore Ravens first-round playoff game at Dolphin Stadium, many decked in aqua and orange and swelled with a pride for their team they hadn’t felt in years. The Dolphins had a remarkable and historic turnaround on the field going from an NFL-worst 1-15 in 2007 to AFC East Division champion with an 11-5 regular season record this year, before losing to the Ravens 27-9. Off the field they’ve made strides, too. Accor

Fighting flares outside Gaza City
Israeli troops have clashed with Palestinian militants on the edge of Gaza City on the third night of Israel’s ground assault on Gaza. The Hamas and Islamic Jihad groups say fighters engaged Israeli soldiers with machine guns and rocket flame. Three Israeli soldiers were also killed by “friendly flame” in northern Gaza. Some 500 Palestinians are thought to have been killed and 2,500 wounded in the 10 days since Israel moved to end rocket attacks from within Gaza. Palestinian medical offic

Broncos Coaching Search - Day Six
“Are you s—ing me? If anyone can change that organization, it’s him. This guy is a forward thinker. He is qualified as far as giving a team a fresh look,” Simeon Rice, former Denver Bronco, former Tampa Bay Buccaneer (on Raheem Morris). Maybe Broncos owner Pat Bowlen was just fulfilling the NFL’s obligation to interview at least one minority candidate — though would the Italian guy count as well? How many Italian coaches are coaching in the NFL? I also read on a local Denver website a quote st

James Harrison > Ed Reed
As you’ve probably heard by now, Steelers’ linebacker James Harrison was named Defensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press. This shouldn’t have arrive as a surprise to anyone. Afterall, Harrison was the only defensive player to receive any votes for NFL MVP. Despite the obvious logic of the choice of Harrison as DPOY, I have been hearing lots of negative comments about the selection. Several commentators on ESPN and NFL Network have implied that the award should have gone to Baltimor
